Congrats on your victory over Otieno. Can you give us some thoughts on your performance?
It was a good step up fight versus an experienced guy that’s faced many world champions. He was a ranked contender, I give my performance out of a scale from 1-10, with me being hard on myself, I give myself about a 6 maybe. I know there’s so much more that I could do, things that I do in sparring in stuff. I just got to continue to grow and get more comfortable with being a professional, I need to let things go more and set my mind free to truly be able to do everything I want to do in the ring. I’m confident that I’m going to continue to develop and one thing is for sure, the crowd loved it. That’s something that matters a lot to me, I want the people to have a great time when they come to see me fight. I feel there’s a lot of things I could have done better, but I won all the rounds, I dropped him in the fifth and this is a durable guy that’s never been stopped in over 40 fights. I’m happy with the performance, but I’m not satisfied.
GL: When you dropped him in the fifth round was he hurt or was it a flash knockdown?
Ja’Rico O’Quinn: “I think it was just a flash knock down. I came in and caught him going backwards.”
GL: What’s next?
JO: “I want to test myself, so I want another step up fight that’s going to push me to bring out more skills and more talent. I want fights that are going to climb me up the rankings, keep me getting better and growing as a fighter. I’m never satisfied with my performances. A lot of people are telling me I looked great, but I know I’ve got so much more to offer than I showed on Friday night.”
GL: Salita Promotions will be doing a big show in New York on April 28th. Will you look to get back on that card?
JO: “I want to be in the ring as soon as possible, if that’s something that my manager and my promoter want to do than you know I’m down. I’m ready for anybody they put in front of me, I just need a little time to get ready and I’m there.”
GL: Closing thoughts?
JO: “Keep watching me, watch progress and I promise I won’t let y’all down.”
