His people are banging the drums for him being the best American heavyweight boxing prospect on the cusp. There is some hope and maybe, arguably, hyperbole mixed into that designation because Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller, of Brooklyn, has not been matched with a murderers row of foes.
Fight fans in the Rochester, New York area can get a look-see and weigh in on Millers’ upside on August 19, when Dmitriy Salita runs a show topped by “BBM” at a soccer stadium. Salita, the Brooklyn-based dealmaker, ran a solid show outdoors at Coney Island and wants the same vibe this time, with Miller (age 27; 17-0-1, 15 knockouts) exhibiting the power and personality which is making him a “ShoBox” fave.
“Jarrell is probably the busiest American prospect and now rated by the top three sanctioning bodies,” Salita told me. “He is calling out the top names and wants to fight a big one very badly.”
Miller meets the well traveled TBD/TBA next, after scoring a second round stoppage over Nick Guivas on May 27, in Niagara Falls, on Showtime.
His regional title will be on the line, Salita said of the massive hitter, who looks to remove heads from shoulders and can talk a mean game before and after a fight.
Speaking of his ability to communicate and gain attention:
“Sometime ago, Jarrell and I went to an upscale kosher restaurant in New York City,” Salita said. “It was after he fought in a nationally-televised fight. All of a sudden, a group of people approached us, smiling and offering their hands. Because of my history of fighting in NYC and the kind of place we were in, I naturally thought it was for me…but I was wrong. A man with his wife and kids asked Jarrell for his autograph after recognizing him from one of his TV fights…and, the next thing I know, people got up from their tables and got into a line to take a picture with Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller in a kosher restaurant and they loved him! Jarrell’s usual slogan is ‘Hard work and cheeseburgers!’ but he altered it for that evening to ‘Hard work and matzo ball soup!’”
You get the picture. Talent plus intent to KO plus personality…this recipe has been formed before and fans have feasted on it. Salita thinks and hopes it can happen again. We take another step in seeing if this is the case on August 19.
